Directive: 26-06 - TRT Shoring Placard and Responsibility Statement
TFRD Shoring Placard and Responsibility Statement
The following procedure shall be followed when the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department’s (TFRD) Technical Rescue Team (TRT) erects structural stability bracing (shoring) in or on a structure during an incident.
- TFRD assumes no responsibility for the continual structural stability of the structure or for the long-term performance of the shoring.
- The shoring is meant to be temporary and is installed solely to protect firefighters during emergency search & rescue and recovery operations.
- The shoring is not a permanent repair and will not be considered a long-term solution for the structural conditions.
Inside of the City of Toledo:
The Incident Commander shall request a member of the COT Department of Building Inspection, through the RCOG Dispatch, to respond to the scene. This practice will allow a second set of eyes to verify the structural conditions and shoring. Once shoring is in place, the shoring shall be properly placarded by the TRT team, (Danger Temporary Shoring Only). A picture of the attached placard shall be taken and added into the official documentation. The COT Department of Building Inspection can also help verify if the building needs to be vacated until permanent repairs are completed.
The building owner may be issued a 30-day order by COT Department of Building Inspection which will prompt the owner to make the necessary repairs due to the unsafe conditions.
Outside of the City of Toledo:
The ranking TFRD TRT officer on scene shall have the shoring placard attached to the installed shoring. A picture of the attachment shall be taken and added into the official documentation. The officer will also explain the following information to the structure’s owner/residents, local fire department command, and, when possible, the local building inspection authority.
