Directive: 25-22 - Mutual Aid Requests for TFRD Resources

2025 Directives

Date Issued: 10/27/2025

Mutual Aid Requests for TFRD Resources

The Toledo Fire & Rescue Department (TFRD) currently has a signed Mutual Aid Agreement with all Lucas County Fire Departments and some departments outside of the county. TFRD understands the essential need these agreements serve for both us, and our surrounding jurisdictions.

That said, there are important concerns TFRD has when dispatching our crews to other jurisdictions as far as procedural and safety issues are involved. Just as we operate within the City of Toledo, we will dispatch a TFRD trained and equipped Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) assignment whenever a TFRD crew operates within an IDLH environment to be assigned as the on-scene RIT.

There are changes to how mutual aid requests will be filled by the Toledo Fire & Rescue Department.

  • Requests for a Structure Fire for RIT, an Engine, or for any interior fire operations:
    • (2E, 1SO, 1BC)
  • Requests for a Structure Fire for an Aerial Truck:
    • (1T, 1E, 1SO, 1BC) – (if interior operations will occur, then add another 1E)
  • Requests for technical response teams (TRT, WRU, HazMat):
    • The normal TFRD dispatch compliment will be sent to Tech Rescue incidents.
  • Requests for EMS assistance:
    • The normal TFRD dispatch compliment will be sent to EMS incidents.
    • If dispatched to a Mutual Aid Structure Fire as the single ALS EMS unit, then no other fire apparatus should be dispatched if they will not be assigned to firefighting activities.
  • Requests for station fill-in:
    • (1E & maybe 1M if additionally requested)

Thank You
