The Operations and Special Operations Bureaus will institute a minimum staffing requirement for our Technical Rescue Team. This policy will be reviewed for its mission effectiveness in six months.
With the recent completion of the three weeks of Structural Collapse training at our Airport Training Center, the time has come to implement minimum staffing numbers for on-duty Technical Rescue Technicians (TRT Techs).
Starting on June 1, 2025, (5) five TRT Techs will be on-duty at Station 6 at all times. When there are not five Techs on-duty at Station 6 with their normal members, then TRT Techs will be first brought in from other stations excluding Station 18. If this process cannot fulfill the five TRT Techs, then TRT Techs from Station 18 will be brought in relieving to fulfill the minimum staffing. Finally, if there are not five TRT Techs on-duty throughout the City, then TRT Techs will be recalled to fill the open positions.
In the event that five TRT Techs are not working at Station 6 due to, the inability to recall members, training requirements, administrative duties, family emergencies, etc., the Technical Rescue Team will still remain in-service but will limit its activities to only what can be accomplished with the safety of our crews as a primary concern.
