This Directive will be implemented at the start of the change in EMS delivery at 0700 hours on August 5, 2024. It will be reviewed for effectiveness and necessity as the new EMS system proceeds and will possibly be adjusted to reflect the Fire Chief’s and Medical Director’s professional decisions and circumstances yet known.

The Paramedic assigned to a Medic Unit will:

  • Ensure an accurate and working ALS inventory (equipment, meds, & supplies),
  • Be the lead EMS provider on all dispatched incidents while working in conjunction with the paramedic on the first responder crew, when applicable,
  • Write and sign the EHR report,
  • Provide direct EMS care during patient transports.

The EMT (or second Paramedic) assigned to a Medic Unit will:

  • Ensure vehicle readiness and drive the Medic Unit,
  • Take patient vitals,
  • Be knowledgeable of ALS techniques and equipment,
  • Assist with ALS intervention prep (i.e., IV setups, attach 12-lead cables, etc.),
  • Assist with all other duties required for proper patient medical care within their scope of practice.

Effective Date: August 5, 2024 after 0700
