+**Policy/Procedure**
+**1.** If a fire is burning inside an oven, and temperatures exceed 600°F, internal safety locks may prevent the door from opening freely. Fire personnel shall not attempt to break the locking mechanism on the oven door in an effort to open it.
+**2.** Fire personnel shall disconnect the electric power or turn off the gas and wait for the oven to cool. If necessary, the oven may be moved outdoors during this time.
+**3.** When the oven cools to approximately 600°F, the door locks will release, allow the door to be opened, and the fire extinguished without further damage to the unit.
+**4.** Fire personnel should use a dry chemical extinguisher to remove the fire hazard.
+**5.** If there is a concern about extension of fire to the structure, the unit should be moved to a safe area outdoors.
